“Markedly Depressed” Demand in September, Says AAPA

: Nov 3, 2020 - : 3:56 am

Cargo and passenger demand in the Asia Pacific  slumped to “markedly depressed levels, with no recovery in sight,” September 2020 traffic results of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) reveal.

While airfreight demand declined by 17.5% year on year,  capacity slipped by nearly 30%.

“Whilst manufacturing conditions further improved globally, some Asian economies continue to face weakness in exports,” the AAPA said.  According to Subhas Menon, director general of the AAPA, governments should implement “consistent and coordinated measures based on objective risk assessment to help restore confidence in air travel.” This would help boost available bellyhold capacity, he added.

“The Association remains committed to working with governments and industry stakeholders to safely restart international air travel as a matter of urgency,” Menon added.
