PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) has completed the upgrade of three CN235 MSA (Maritime Surveillance Aircraft) for the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF). The RMAF had contracted for the upgrade of three aircraft under the under the U.S. Department of Defence’s Maritime Security Initiative (MSI) programme.
Aside from performing a Service-Life Extension Program (SLEP) on each of these three aircraft, PTDI also installed a Merlin maritime surveillance system on each of them. Developed by an Oregon-based company Integrated Surveillance and Defence, Inc (ISD), the system consists of a Forward-Looking Infra-Red (FLIR) module, a surveillance radar contained in a belly radome, and an automatic identification and tracking system to provide the RMAF’s CN-235 MSA with Intelligence, Surveillance, And Reconnaissance (ISR) capability. PTDI had delivered the first RMAF’s CN235 MSA in June 2022. PTDI has already completed the modification three CN235 Transport of Turkish Coast Guard into Maritime Surveillance Aircraft (MSA). It has also modified six CN235 Transport of Turkish Navy into Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW) aircraft. PTDI has also rewired a CN235 belonging to the Indonesian Air Force.
