SAS Technology has completed a live-fire testing campaign for its SARISA II (SRS-2A) unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) from 10–12 February 2025. Conducted under the supervision of the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence, the tests assessed the aircraft’s ability to launch unguided and laser-guided rockets while maintaining stability and precision.
The trials involved firing 70mm unguided and FZ275 laser-guided rockets supplied by Thales Belgium. SARISA II launched the unguided rocket while hovering, demonstrating flight stability despite the blast effect. The laser-guided rocket struck its designated target with a circular error probable (CEP) of less than 1 metre. The aircraft carried out the engagement autonomously, without manual operator input.
The testing marked the final stage of SARISA II’s certification, which is described as the first UCAV to integrate and operationally launch laser-guided rockets, a capability previously associated with manned attack helicopters and fighter aircraft.
A live demonstration was held on the final day, attended by military officials and international delegations. SARISA II launched a supersonic FZ275 laser-guided rocket from an altitude of 450 metres, again achieving a CEP of less than 1 metre. The event also featured the EMPUSA EMPX6T, an armed unmanned system in operational service since 2020, which carried out grenade drop missions. A planned test of the AIHMI loitering munition was postponed due to low cloud cover.
SAS Technology acknowledged the support of Thales Belgium, Hellenic Defence Systems (HDS), the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence, and the Hellenic Army in the testing programme. The company stated that SARISA II offers a potential alternative to manned aircraft for close air support operations.
