Saudi Arabia’s Prince Sultan Defense Studies and Research Center is showcasing the Yamama YM-01 Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) for the first time in Jordan.

“There seems to be a lot of interest in Yamama here and we expect to get some export opportunities for the UAS,” a senior official at the Prince Sultan Defense Studies and Research Center said on the sidelines of the show. “The UAS is a complete multi-role tactical Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), designed for surveillance, and reconnaissance, and Target correction applications. It has autonomous take-off and landing system, and can be controlled through a dedicated ground control station and tracking antenna unit,” he added.

The UAS, powered by a 8.1HP reciprocating engine, can race to a maximum speed of 100 Kts with a maximum payload of 5 kilograms. The UAS can also attain a maximum altitude of 4000 meters and has a maximum endurance of six hours.

The UAS, designed and manufactured by the research Center, has successfully passed testing and experimentation to qualify its subsystems in different environmental conditions. The Center has displayed a model of the UAS at its pavilion.

The UAS is made from a light weight, carbon composite structure. It has an inverted V-tail with redundant ruddervators. “The removable wings and tail help in transpiration,” the official at the Center said.
