Terma, a developer of radar and defence systems, has joined forces with UK ship and fleet protection specialist SEA to create a new naval countermeasures solution. The partnership, announced at Euronaval 2024, builds on an agreement signed in October and aims to enhance vessel defence capabilities.
The collaboration combines SEA’s Ancilia trainable decoy launcher and Terma’s C-Guard countermeasures technology. Ancilia, unlike fixed systems, can adjust its position without requiring the vessel to change course, improving response to incoming threats. It is compact and lightweight, allowing quick installation on a range of maritime platforms. Ancilia also supports a variety of NATO-standard and other decoy types, making it suitable for retrofitting on existing vessels.
The C-Guard MK II, Terma’s latest decoy system, now includes the Ancilia launcher among its four configuration options. This system’s adaptability allows for both fixed and trainable launchers, providing flexible defence capabilities for a broad array of naval vessels. The C-Guard MK II incorporates advanced threat analysis and a tactical display system designed to handle different vessel profiles, and it integrates with ship combat management systems for streamlined use across various fleets.

Recently, SEA secured a £135 million contract with the UK Royal Navy to deploy Ancilia to enhance the defensive systems on its surface ships.
