Terma has signed a contract with Swiss aerospace and telecommunications company SWISSto12 to supply key equipment for the HummingSat project, a small geostationary telecommunications satellite developed under an agreement between the European Space Agency (ESA) and SWISSto12. The first satellite launch is planned for 2026.

Under the contract, Terma will provide three Power Satellite Checkout Equipment (SCOE) systems and one Flatsat SCOE based on its UniverSAS product. The company will also deliver a Stand-Alone Battery Conditioning Equipment (BCE) unit capable of serving two batteries simultaneously, along with a mechanical simulator SCOE based on its TSC product and four check-out systems (CCS) based on the CCS5 product.

“We are excited and honored to be part of the HummingSat project and contribute to SWISSto12’s our AIT infrastructure. Partnering with SWISSto12 on this groundbreaking initiative highlights our dedication to enabling innovative space technologies and advancing European telecommunications,” says Günther Lackner, Senior Vice President of Terma Space.

The Flatsat, Power, and Launch SCOE systems provided by Terma are based on its ProUST UniverSAS product, which is designed as a compact, multi-functional unit. According to the company, this setup allows SWISSto12 to replace multiple traditional SCOEs with a single smaller unit, optimising costs and cleanroom space.

Mike Kaliski, Chief Technology Officer of HummingSat, commented: “We are excited to partner with Terma and work closely together to ensure the success of this groundbreaking satellite, driving innovation and expanding the horizons of space connectivity.”

The collaboration reflects the commitment of SWISSto12, ESA, and Terma to advancing satellite technology and developing new solutions for telecommunications and European space exploration.
