Terma has received a purchase order from the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) concerning system integration of the new VSHORAD system for the Royal Danish Army. It is the first order as part of the 30-year framework agreement that Terma and DALO signed in 2023.
The solution that Terma will provide for the Royal Danish Army's 1st Brigade will integrate advanced sensors – such as radar – with cutting-edge effectors. DALO has recently signed a contract with Rheinmetall on the Skyranger 30 as the effector. The entire system will be controlled using Terma's proprietary command and control software, BMD-Flex and communicate through Terma's communications infrastructure.
"Our primary mission is to enhance the Danish Armed Forces' capability to defend both themselves and Denmark. Terma's flexible air defense approach, where we integrate the best-suited systems from multiple suppliers, will provide Denmark with a rapid and cost-effective Very Short Range Air Defense system for the 1st Brigade. With the selection of the Skyranger 30, DALO has chosen a top-tier effector and we look forward to integrate it into the final VSHORAD system" said Steen Lynenskjold, Executive Vice President, Government and Partnerships.
The VSHORAD system from Terma operates on the "any sensor, best shooter" principle and forms part of a broader multi-domain defense system, which also includes Denmark's frigates and F-35 fighter jets. This principle allows any sensor, whether mounted on a vehicle, a ship, an aircraft, or located on the ground, to detect incoming threats and quickly determine the most effective effector to neutralize the target. The key advantage is that the systems communicate across different platforms, allowing for the most efficient response to threats.
The system is designed to protect ground military units, including command stations and combat units, within the brigade's operational area. Additionally, the new air defense capability for the Royal Danish Army aligns with NATO's force goals for Denmark in the area of VSHORAD.
The Very Short Range Air Defense capability is also intended to be fully integrated into the brigade's operations as part of a broader, layered air defense system. It will be prepared to collaborate with other air defense systems, ensuring seamless cooperation within the overall air defense framework.
