The Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant Training Center, under the Russian Helicopters holding company, has successfully completed training a second group of pilots and engineering staff of the Indian company Sky One Airways to operate and maintain the Mi-171A2 helicopter.

The team studied the aerodynamics of the Mi-171A2, its design and technical operation, avionics, the VK-2500PS-03 engine with its integrated digital control system and the auxiliary power unit.

Each of the Sky One Airways personnel received an established certificate for passing the training. Among the trainees there were also specialists from the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation, who conducted a preliminary inspection of the training center for its validation.

“During crew training, special attention was paid to the procedure and rules for operating cockpit systems and avionics, various details concerning piloting techniques, aerodynamics and dynamics of the helicopter flight, as well as crew resource management (CRM) and airborne communications. Along with the theoretical part of the programme, each technical specialist also passed practical training in operational and routine maintenance,” said Leonid Belykh, Managing Director of U-UAP.

The training programme for Indian pilots included additional focus on operating procedures in non-standard and emergency situations, as well as for maneuvering the helicopter out from a difficult spatial position.

The Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant is one of the manufacturing facilities owned by the Russian Helicopters Holding Company. The plant’s current industrial and technological potential is instrumental in swiftly arranging production of new aircraft models and combining prototype construction with mass production.

Over the course of 80 years of operation, more than 8,500 aircraft have been built at the plant. Currently, the plant specialises in the production of Mi-8AMT (Mi-171E), Mi-171, Мi-171А2, Mi-8AMTSh (Mi-171Sh) and Mi-8AMTSh-VA helicopters.
