Vietjet will commence direct flights connecting Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) of Vietnam with Melbourne of Victoria, Australia from March 31.

The decision was announced on Wednesday at a ceremony attended by Tim Pallas, Victorian Minister for Trade and Investment , who heads the Victorian delegation currently on a working visit to Vietnam, and Vietjet Managing Director Dinh Viet Phuong.

The first flights connecting HCMC and Melbourne will be operated at a frequency of three flights per week. The airline also expects to increase its operation to seven flights per week from December 2024, depending on market conditions.

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, flights will depart from HCMC at 09:50 a.m. local time and arrive at Melbourne Airport at 10:35 p.m. local time on the same day. On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, flights will take off from Melbourne Airport at 00:30 a.m. local time and arrive in HCMC at 05:15 a.m. local time on the same day. The airline will use its A330 aircraft for the flights. Passengers can also optimize their flying experiences with a range of Vietjet’s ticket classes that include SkyBoss Business, SkyBoss, Deluxe and Eco.

“The arrival of another airline from Southeast Asia is a win for the Victorian economy and local jobs – showing the strength of our tourism and export markets,” said Pallas.

Data from Vietnam General Statistics Office reveals that in 2021, bilateral trade between Vietnam and Australia reached its all-time record of USD12.4 billion. The turnover is expected to further grow thanks to the arrival of Vietjet in Australian market in 2023.
