Focus: Engines
The introduction of re-engines narrowbodies by Airbus
and Boeing later this decade has thrown the spotlight
on new more fuel-efficient engine designs. The likes of
the Comac C919, Bombardier CSeries and MRJ regional
jet will all feature new engine technology. We look at the
what manufacturers such as CFM, Pratt & Whitney and
Rolls-Royce are planning for this key market segment.
Cabin Interiors
With the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A380 entering
Asian fleets in increasing numbers, teh opportunities for a
rethink of how the cabin is laid out is presenting itself. At
the same time, the rise of tablets such as the iPad is
revolutionising the passenger entertainment offering -
presenting plenty of opportunities but also some
challenges for airlines. We look at the latest in cabin
design.
Aircraft update
Korean Air is the Asian launch customer for the CSeries,
with an entry into service slated for 2014. The Korean flag
carrier has order ten CS300s, with options for a further
20. Bombardier’s CSeries portfolio includes the 110-seat
CS100 and the 130-seat CS300, which in highest-density
configuration can seat 149 passengers. We look at the
prospects for this aircraft in the Asian market.
