Bits, Bytes and Big Data: the
latest Aviation Revolution
Take a flight on today’s airlines, and it’s probably true that you will spend more time in
front of a screen than talking to a human. You will likely book online, get confirmation
by email and SMS, check in online, print your own boarding pass, check in your bags
with a barcode app, bio-scan your passport at customs, buy duty-free by NFC phone,
and once on the aircraft either use on-board internet or watch a YouTube movie on
your tablet using the latest satellite news feed. Admittedly, a real human will check
your boarding pass – but that’s it in most cases. We look at how IT is revolutionising
