Rockwell Collins scoops South Korean avionics contract (SINGAPORE AIRSHOW 2014 – DAY 2)

On 11 February, Rockwell Collins announced its proprietary Flight2 avionics had been selected by integrator L-3 for use on Republic of Korea Navy’s (ROKN) P-3C aircraft. Korean Air is the prime contractor for this upgrade programme that will lift these eight craft to the same status as P-3CK aircraft. “Republic of Korea Navy pilots will experience greater situational awareness and communications capabilities with the highly advanced avionics aboard these aircraft,” commented Troy Brunk, vice president and general manager of the company’s Airborne Solutions division. Flight2 includes new primary flight displays, state-of-the-art flight management system, communication radios, navigation sensors and surveillance systems.

Doug Schoen, director of sales and marketing for Asia Pacific region, pointed out that Rockwell Collins employed 160 staff in Singapore, and that Australia, South Korea ad Japan were the biggest customers in the region.

In related news, on 10 February Rockwell Collins announced the appointment of Jim Walker as vice president and managing director of Asia Pacific. Walker spent 15 years serving in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).
