Hanwha Systems has recently signed a US$33 million contract to supply their Naval Shield Combat Management System (CMS) for the Philippine Navy’s (PN) upcoming two corvettes.
The company will provide the CMS on both corvettes currently being built by another South Korean defense company, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), after winning the contract for the Philippine Navy’s corvette acquisition program in December 2021. Both vessels are expected to be delivered in 2026.
Previously, Hanwha Systems has also won a contract to upgrade the CMS on two Philippine Navy’s Jose-Rizal class frigates, also built by HHI, in 2019. The company is also in the process of building a training facility for the Philippine Navy since November 2021.
The CMS serves as a “brain” in a modern warship that integrates various sensors, weapons, communication, and countermeasure systems. Hanwha Systems’ CMS has been installed or been selected in more than 80 naval ships including South Korea’s Navy FFX-III frigate, and KDDX destroyer projects.
