Israel’s InnovAero Developing eVTOL Air Taxi

: Jan 4, 2022 - : 9:47 pm

Israeli start up InnovAero, founded by Israel’s leading unmanned aerial systems world experts, is developing a new eVTOL (electric Vertical Take Off & Landing) autonomous air taxi called Pentaxi.

According to the company, Pentaxi will be a real breakthrough in the field of Urban Air Mobility. The air taxi is designed as a thrust vectoring aircraft controlled by five rotating electric motors and a cabin design for 4 passengers. Pentaxi has retractable landing gear, which will help to reduce drag during horizontal flight, and enable taxi in the landing site.

Pentaxi uses five independent rotating motors positioned on the wing tips and the rear of the aircraft, allowing for optimal control during vertical flight and the transition from vertical to horizontal flight. This unique configuration is capable of assuring the safety in case of a failure of one of the engines.

The back wings dihedral and forward wings anhedral will create a separation between the front and back motors flow to reduce the interaction during horizontal flight. The ducted fan technology, according to the company, will reduce the noise, increase thrust during vertical and horizontal flight, thus improving ground safety.

Pentaxi will have a triple redundancy for all flight critical systems (flight control, power bus, battery packs ) and will provide the flight safety level required for certification, said Yair Dubester former CEO of MALAT (IAI UAV Division) and now InnovAero founder-chairman. According to the company, several patents related to the unique features of Pentaxi have been submitted.

According to company officials, Pentaxi will have a reduced footprint and an estimated cruise speed of 240 km/h. The maximum range, with the existing battery technology, is 320 km. InnovAero is now raising capital through crowd funding and has already successfully tested a sub-scale prototype.
