Jet Loses Amsterdam Slots to KLM

: May 30, 2019 - : 4:53 am

Grounded Indian carrier Jet Airways is facing yet another loss, as Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport gives its slots away to Dutch carrier KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. KLM will now increase service to Mumbai and add connections to Bengaluru three times a week, from October 2019.

Business Standard reported KLM as saying,“The thrice-weekly connection from Bengaluru will open up more opportunities for travel from India with easy connections to Europe and North America via the convenient hub of Amsterdam Schiphol,”

KLM and Virgin Atlantic, two codeshare partners of Jet Airways, will re-launch several international routes from India to London Heathrow and Amsterdam that were previously served by Jet Airways, in order to provide alternative options for customers and to meet the demand on the routes.

The flight, which is scheduled to be operated by Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets, will be KLM’s third route to India, in addition to Mumbai and Delhi. In October, Virgin Atlantic will restart its route from London Heathrow to Mumbai. The service will be operated by Boeing 787 aircraft and will complement the airline’s existing route between London and Delhi.

Previously Jet Airways operated four daily flights from Amsterdam Schiphol. Three went to India, arriving at Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi, and one to Toronto in Canada. These slots, based at the busy Schiphol Airport, have been going unused since the Indian carrier stopped flying in March this year.
