At a recent event held at Kopter’s facility in Mollis, Switzerland, Leonardo announced the appointment of Aero Facility as the official distributor for the AW09 helicopter in Japan. This announcement was made during the first AW09 Sales Network event, which was dedicated to distributors and partners.
In March 2023, Aero Facility signed Preliminary Sales Contracts for six units. This development extends Leonardo’s distributorship strategy to Japan, catering to the country’s commercial applications. This appointment follows similar appointments of distributors in Europe and strengthens the AW09’s presence in Asia.
Aero Facility, based in Tokyo, has 30 years of experience in constructing heliports and helidecks, supplying ancillary equipment, and selling fixed and rotary wing aircraft along with relevant services. The inclusion of an AW09 distributor in Japan is expected to enhance Leonardo’s position in the Japanese helicopter market.
Currently, around 160 helicopters of various types operate in Japan, performing missions such as law enforcement, emergency medical services, search and rescue, firefighting, disaster relief, VIP/corporate transport, electronic news gathering, and maritime utility.
The AW09 complements Leonardo’s product range in the Long Light Single segment, introducing a new design to maintain competitive positioning in this weight category. Designed as a digital helicopter, the rotorcraft allows data transmission, gathering, and analysis for technical support, scheduled maintenance, and flight efficiency/safety capabilities, which are unparalleled in the single-engine market.
