After launching its inaugural Jakarta-Bali daily route last month in April, Pelita Air has announced that it will add the Jakarta-Yogyakarta daily route starting on 20 June this year.
“The opening of the route from Jakarta to Yogyakarta was chosen because Yogyakarta is one of our most prioritized tourism destinations,” said President Director of Pelita Air, Dendy Kurniawan in the company press release earlier this week. “The opening of this route is expected to support the revival of Indonesian tourism after the pandemic and support the need for air services for students and academics in Yogyakarta and other business travelers,” he added.
This new Pelita Air route will link Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) with Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) and will be served by the airline’s Airbus A320-214 aircraft. The flight is scheduled to take off from CGK at 6:40 am to arrive at YIA at 7:55 am while its return flight will take off from Yogyakarta at 8:40 am to land in Jakarta at 10:00 am. All times are UTC+7.
A subsidiary of Indonesia’s State Oil and Natural Gas Mining Company (Perusahaan Pertambangan Minyak dan Gas Bumi Negara/Pertamina), Pelita Air was founded in 1970 to provide chartered air transportation services for the oil and gas industry in Indonesia. It also had a scheduled flight service for the public in the year 2000 but was closed in 2005 due to stiff competition.
November 2021 marked a return to scheduled public flights for the company after it was announced that the Indonesian flag carrier airline Garuda Indonesia will close 97 of its domestic and international routes in 2022 as part of its restructuring efforts. Pelita Air and TransNusa are positioned to take over some of those routes in its place.
