RTAF Showcases New Locally-Developed Drones

Our Bureau - : Dec 2, 2024 - : 7:19 pm

The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) has introduced two new domestically-developed drones, identified as the KB-5E and KB-10G, during the DronTech Asia 2024 event in Bangkok. The exhibition took place from 25 to 27 November.

The drones were created through collaboration between the Royal Thai Air Force Academy, the RTAF Weapons Research and Development Center, and the RTAF Ordnance Department.

The KB-5E is equipped with a 5 kg warhead and uses an electric motor for propulsion. It has a cruise speed of 90 km/h and a range of 150 km. Meanwhile, the KB-10G, a larger model powered by an unspecified piston engine, reportedly has a maximum range of 500 km and a cruise speed of 120 km/h. Both drones are guided by GPS and INS, with an accuracy of less than three metres.

The RTAF has indicated that the drones have successfully completed initial flight testing and are now undergoing a second trial phase. Serial production is anticipated in the coming years, potentially enhancing the Air Force’s operational capabilities.
