Schiebel’s CAMCOPTER S-100 has been awarded the first-ever Design Verification Report (DVR) by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for a Rotary Wing Unmanned Air System (RWUAS).
The DVR was issued following a detailed evaluation that included 300 EASA-observed flight hours. This process confirmed the airworthiness, safety, and enhanced containment of the system, and demonstrated compliance with laser safety, cyber security, and High-Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF) standards.
This report allows the French Navy to issue a “Military Operational Type Authorisation” and simplifies the approval of S-100 flight operations across all EASA member states.
Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group, stated, “Receiving the DVR is a significant milestone for Schiebel and a major step towards fully certifying the CAMCOPTER S-100 UAS.”
The DVR process, introduced by EASA at the end of 2021, is designed to ensure the safety of drone operations in Europe.
The CAMCOPTER S-100 is recognised for its versatility in military and civilian applications. It features vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capabilities, requiring no prepared area for launch or recovery. It can operate day and night, under adverse weather conditions, and has a range of up to 200 km (108 nm).
Its carbon fibre and titanium fuselage supports various payloads and endurances, with a service ceiling of 5,500 m (18,000 ft). The system can carry a 34-kg payload for up to 10 hours and is powered by AVGas or JP-5 heavy fuel. High-definition imagery is transmitted in real time, and the system can operate in GPS-denied environments through a user-friendly interface.
