Leading Turkish shipbuilder STM is giving international delegations attending SAHA Expo a chance to take a real close look at the company’s range of naval capabilities.
Türkiye's first national frigate, TCG İSTANBUL (F-515), for which STM served as the designer and main contractor, and a MİLGEM Ada-Class corvette, in which STM was the main subcontractor, are moored at the Sarayburnu and Ataköy harbours in Istanbul for the duration of the event. Members of delegations will thus have a chance to inspect the military ships up close. TCG İSTANBUL was commissioned by the Turkish Navy this year.
At the STM stand, models of the İstif-Class Frigate, Ada-Class Corvette, Logistics Support Ship, STM500 submarine, STM MPAC Multi-Purpose Attack Craft and Coast Guard Ships are on display. One of Türkiye’s leading defence companies, STM specializes in naval platforms, but also offers tactical mini-UAV systems (loitering munitions) and cyber security solutions.
KARGU and TOGAN
The company, which has played a major role in Türkiye in the development of tactical mini-UAVs, is highlighting its KARGU platform, Türkiye's first national attack UAV, at the event. KARGU can be equipped with anti-personnel and armour-piercing warheads. The company has seen considerable interest in the UAV from international customers, with the platform exported to more than 10 countries on three continents.
STM is also displaying the TOGAN Surveillance UAV, which recently entered the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces and is being actively used in the fight against terrorism. Also on display is the BOYGA ammunition-drop UAV, the ALPAGUT Smart Loitering Munition System, and the ALPAGU Fixed Wing Loitering Munition System. Show visitors will be able to watch the flights of KARGU and TOGAN at the FPV drone area of the event.
Deals on the Cards
At the event, the company, which has seen its global footprint grow considerably in recent years, is expected to sign a number of cooperation agreements for the development of new technologies and projects. “We also have a few surprises that will be witnessed for the first time at SAHA Expo," says Özgür Güleryüz, General Manager of STM, who is scheduled to be one of the speakers at a panel discussion during the event on “A New Actor of the Battlefield: FPV Drones.” “SAHA Expo has grown rapidly to become one of the most important defence industry fairs in the world. We will gather with international delegations and prepare the ground for new cooperation projects through meetings with our supplier ecosystem.”
The company comes to the event riding on a lot of momentum. Aside from the vessels built for the Turkish Navy, STM has built naval platforms for Pakistan, Ukraine and Malaysia, and exported its tactical mini-UAV systems to more than 10 countries on three continents. Its portfolio also includes software developed for NATO's intelligence infrastructure, as well as responsibilities for the platform cyber security of KAAN, Türkiye's 5th generation fighter jet.
STM to Launch AUV Soon
In line with its strategy of integrating modern technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics into its project, STM is currently developing robotic systems that can perform various military tasks autonomously or in collaboration with human operators.
“STM aims to deepen its efforts in autonomous underwater vehicles and develop high-level autonomy products in this sector,” says Güleryüz. “We plan to launch our unmanned autonomous underwater vehicle this year, following intensive and rigorous development. In the initial phase, the STM unmanned autonomous underwater vehicle is planned to be used for mine detection and neutralization missions.”
