TAI Pitches Anka UAV for Malaysia

: Apr 16, 2018 - : 10:45 pm

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) is pitching its Anka Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to the South-East Asian market, including Malaysia and Indonesia.

According to a TAI official, the Anka can act as a force multiplier for countries in the region. “They can  keep eyes on a target, eliminate them with their payload or if needed, call in a strike force,” he says.

TAI is showcasing the Anka UAV at the ongoing  DSA 2018. “Our company maintains a dynamic relationship with the countries we are eager to work with, and in order to meet the needs of Asian market, we are showcasing the most attention-grabbing products,” the official says.

Besides Anka, TAI is also showcasing models of T129 ATAK Helicopter, T625 Helicopter, HÜRKUŞ Training and Light Attack Aircraft, and TF-X (Turkish Fighter). TAI is expected to further discuss several defence  deals with Malaysian authorities.

TAI recently delivered the first operational Anka-S medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned aerial  systems to the Turkish Air Force. The Anka-S is a variant of the Anka medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned air system that first flew in  2010. As well as boosting altitude and endurance over the original Anka- A model, the Anka-S is equipped with a satellite-based, beyond-line of sight (BLOS) communications system allowing surveillance operations to be performed over the horizon. Operational Anka-S is fitted with the Aselsan-developed Common Aperture Targeting System (CATS) high-definition electro-optical camera payload in the nose. The aircraft also can be fitted with a synthetic aperture  radar in the belly, but the Turkish Air Force is not yet putting the sensor on its aircraft. According to TAI, a single ground station can control up to six Anka air vehicles.

The Turkish Air Force has ordered 10 Anka-S aircraft and has received two so far. Two additional batches of four will follow, says the TAI official.
