ThinKom Solutions, Inc. has introduced the ThinAir GT Plus, a satellite communication terminal aimed at government and military applications. The system was unveiled at the SATELLITE 2025 event in Washington, DC.
The GT Plus combines ThinKom’s existing GT 2517 antenna, which provides Ka-band connectivity across geostationary (GEO), medium Earth orbit (MEO), highly elliptical orbit (HEO), and low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, with a compact electronically steered array (ESA) designed specifically for LEO networks. The system is designed to offer multi-beam, multi-band, and multi-orbit connectivity within a standards-compliant installation. It retains the company’s high spectral efficiency and features a low-profile, aerodynamic radome that contributes to reduced fuel consumption and extended operational time for airborne missions.
“ThinKom continues to lead the industry, delivering the highest performing connectivity solutions from every orbit to every mission,” said Bill Milroy, ThinKom’s Chief Technology Officer. “The GT 2517 is already the leading multi-constellation terminal available. We are excited that GT Plus will now further extend that capability with true multi-band and multi-beam capabilities, expanding the communications options available for our government partners.”
The system is designed to provide seamless global coverage, supporting the full range of Ka-band frequencies and instantaneous bandwidth required for Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS), hopped waveforms, and Protected Tactical Waveforms (PTW). It enables “pole-to-pole” connectivity on various networks, including civil and extended civil Ka-band GEO (such as the Wideband Global SATCOM system), Ka MEO, Ku and Ka LEO, and Ka HEO satellites.
The GT Plus includes a lightweight ESA optimised for LEO constellations, providing low-latency communications for missions that require real-time data exchange. The ESA also enhances service capacity and redundancy on existing LEO networks and offers flexibility for integration with emerging proliferated LEO (pLEO) constellations. It is designed for deployment without significantly affecting the weight and power requirements of the baseline terminal installation.
The GT Plus architecture supports multiple proprietary ESA options in Ku or Ka-band. The system’s modular design allows for rapid deployment, as well as the ability to swap, maintain, and upgrade the ESA to meet different operational requirements.
