The European Defence Agency (EDA) has selected Schiebel’s CAMCOPTER S-100 for its “Autonomous Systems for Cross-Domain Logistics (Air and Land)” programme under the Hub for European Defence Innovation (HEDI). The initiative, hosted by the Italian Army, focuses on the use of unmanned systems for logistical support across different operational domains.
The programme will involve large-scale collaborative trials of Unmanned Air Systems (UAS) and Unmanned Ground Systems (UGS). In June and July 2025, a series of simulated missions, including last-mile resupply in hostile environments, will be conducted. The CAMCOPTER S-100, chosen for the category of unmanned aircraft capable of carrying more than 50kg, will be tested alongside two smaller UAS and three UGS.
The increasing reliance on autonomous systems in military operations has highlighted the need for interoperability, particularly in cross-domain logistics. HEDI seeks to accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies through field testing in realistic operational settings.
“This programme, which is the first of its kind by EDA, closely follows three other tenders won by Schiebel in the European Union, including a new contract for the European Maritime Safety Agency, as well as the European Defence Fund’s SEACURE and OPTIMAS consortiums.
