IAI Introduces First-of-its-kind Teaser Missile

Arie Egozi - : Oct 29, 2024 - : 10:42 pm

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has unveiled the Teaser, an ACLOS (Automatic Command to Line-of-Sight) tactical affordable infantry weapon system) that is world's first guided missile using an external optical guidance without a homing sensor.

According to the company, the Teaser missile is a groundbreaking addition that revolutionizes infantry attacks by providing precise, simple, reliable and cost-effective solutions for the modern battlefield. The missile can attack ground targets, light structures, lightly armored vehicles, low-altitude aerial vehicles and moving targets.

IAI says that the Teaser guarantees mission success while being configurable to the user's specific needs. It does not require GNSS and is easy to use, ensuring ground forces are independently prepared to confront the threats of the modern battlefield.

Teaser employs a missile without a homing sensor (thus saving both weight and costs). It uses an external guidance system (the Teaser-Sight) to guide the missile automatically to the target. The Teaser-Sight can also connect to external sensors for better reliability, versatility and survivability.

The Teaser guided missile system has two modes of operation: shoulder-launched (with the Teaser Sight attached to the canister) and remote launched. When shoulder-launched, the entire system is carried by a single soldier. The missiles two-stage embedded motor (ejection stage and booster) enables safe back-blast, allowing for firing from enclosed areas.

The remote launch mode allows the firing of more Teaser missiles from a multi-launcher (placed on the surface terrain, a vehicle, etc.) with the operator or a separate platform carrying the Teaser-Sight, and the launch command given by the operator through a GCS (Ground Control Station). This allows for continuous fire support by a single operator and more extensive uses such as border defence by the same missile system, as well as maintaining a safe distance from the threat.

The new missile meets the critical need of battalion-level tactical teams for an independent, guided and affordable lethal capability, said IAI's General Manager of the IAI/MALAM Division, Colonel (ret.) Jacob Galifat.
