Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) joined the Sharp Technics K (STK) and Incheon International Airport Corporation for a ceremony heralding the commencement of construction for a collaborative Boeing 777 passenger-to-freight conversion facility in Korea.

“Today is a significant milestone in the ‘Big Twin’ program and our partnership with STK and Incheon International Airport,” said Shmuel Kuzi, Executive VP and General Manager of IAI’s Aviation Group in the company’s press release on Thursday (Apr. 18).

“I appreciate our partners’ investment of time and resources in this important project, and I look forward to further developing our strategic cooperation with Korean companies and the South Korean government,” he added.

IAI, in conjunction with AerCap, successfully converted a Boeing 777-300ER (known as the ‘Big Twin’) to a freight configuration. With numerous orders already secured and pending certification from aviation authorities, industry analysts foresee the converted Boeing-777 passenger-to-freight aircraft will become a contender of the world’s top global freighters, owing to its considerable advantages.

IAI envisions substantial benefits stemming from its close alliance with STK and Incheon International Airport Corporation, alongside the burgeoning demand for the ‘Big Twin’. This collaboration is poised to fortify the Korean aviation sector, augment local expertise, and catalyze job creation.
