Russian Helicopters is looking at supplying its civilian aircraft to countries in the Latin American region, one of the fastest growing helicopter markets in the world.
“The newest civilian aircraft models and the possibility of their supplies to foreign partners will be our focus of attention at the FAMEX 2019,” said Andrey Boginsky, CEO of Russian Helicopters. The exposition includes the basic range of Russian civil helicopters – light Ansat, medium Mi-171A2 and medium-heavy Mi-38.
During the aerospace fair, Russian Helicopters’ specialists will carry out a number of negotiations with Mexican partners and representatives of other countries, he said. The holding’s specialists will also discuss maintenance and repair of the Mi-8/17 aircraft operated in Mexico.
“Specifically this is about overhaul of several Mi-17-1V helicopters,” he said. According to the company, the choice of aircraft for the presentation at the Mexico Aerospace Fair is not random. “These three helicopters are the three main weight categories needed in various areas,” he said.
“In November 2018, we concluded a contract with Mexican company Craft Avia Center for supply of an Ansat helicopter for passenger transportation. This year, we are going to deliver the aircraft to the customer,” said Boginsky. He noted that the holding was carrying out negotiations on supply of spare parts and components for Ansat and discussions with the partners regarding the program for training Mexican pilots to operate helicopters of that type.
An application for validation of the Ansat and Mi-171A2 aircraft type certificates has been submitted.
The light multipurpose helicopter Ansat featuring the largest in class cockpit is currently being used in Russia as a flying ambulance. This twin-engine helicopter is optimal for most diverse tasks in large cities because it is compact in size and does not require a large landing site. It can also be used for passenger and VIP transportation, cargo delivery and environment monitoring. For long-distance carriage of up to four tons of cargo, the holding offers the Mi-8/17 helicopter range, which is well- known in Mexico, including the newest Mi-171A2. The design has over eighty changes versus the basic model, which has made the cruise and maximum speed of this helicopter ten per cent higher. The helicopter also features considerably increased flight automation.
In late 2018, Mi-171A2 and Ansat were tested in harsh climates within a unique demonstration tour across Southeast Asia. These helicopters successfully covered under their own power nearly 5000 km with demonstration flights being per- formed in China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia. Another focus is a multipurpose helicopter occupying a niche between the medium-lift Mi-8 and heavy-lift Mi-26. The Mi-38 is capable of carrying a useful load of upto five tons to a distance of upto 800 km. It is equipped with high-efficiency engines, a crash-resistant fuel system and energy-absorbing seats, ensuring its maximum security for passenger transportation.
Russian Helicopters’ delegation at FAMEX is headed by the holding’s Deputy CEO for Aftersales Service Igor Chechikov.
The Russian exposition was first organised at the second edition of FAMEX in 2017.
