Embraer Strengthens Industrial Collaboration with Korea

Our Bureau - : Nov 3, 2022 - : 5:28 am

Embraer has entered several Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with South Korea aerospace companies ASTG (Aerospace Technology of Global), EMK (EM Korea Co.) and Kencoa Aerospace. The Brazil airframer is competing in the Large Transport Aircraft (LTA) II Programme being run by the Korea’s Defence Acquisition Programme Administration (DAPA). The Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) operates C-130 and CN-235 transport aircraft.

Embraer is looking to strengthen its collaboration with Korean defense industry partners for the future supply of parts for the C-390 Millennium aircraft. The potential supply of South Korean manufactured parts will contribute to the offset requirements of the LTA II Programme. Embraer says the MoUs are also intended to create long-term business relationships between both parties which will endure for the LTA II Program and beyond. “Embraer is very confident on the mutual benefits to be gained from this collaboration, thus creating a sustainable and growing relationship between Embraer and the partners in South Korea”, said Jackson Schneider, President & CEO, Embraer Defence & Security.

The C-390 Millennium and its aerial refueling configuration, the KC-390, are new generation of multi-mission military transport aircraft. The Brazilian Air Force (FAB), was the launch operator of the KC-390 Millennium and has a fleet of five aircraft, which have already exceeded 7,000 flight hours in operation, with a 99 per cent mission completion rate, demonstrating excellent availability and productivity in its category.

The FAB’s KC-390s took part in the Multinational Joint Military Exercise SALITRE IV, in the Atacama desert region from 10-21 October. During more than 300 air missions of this exercise, which had about 50 daily take-offs, the KC-390 maintained a 100 per cent missions accomplished rate. Its range and in-flight refueling capabilities were extended during the exercise through removable fuselage tanks, which can be installed and uninstalled in just a few hours, and add up to 12,000 kg of fuel to the aircraft’s capacity.

The Netherlands Ministry of Defence selected the C-390 Millennium in June to replace its fleet of C-130 Hercules transport aircraft. The Portuguese Armed Forces and the Hungarian Defense Forces will begin operations with the KC-390 in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
