GIDS Unveils Future-Leaning Systems

Jay Menon - : Jul 27, 2023 - : 2:14 am

Pakistan’s state-owned defence conglomerate Global Industrial & Defence Solutions (GIDS) has unveiled the Shahpar-III Group 4+ Male UCAV and the Faaz air-to-air missile besides several future-oriented products and systems.

The group represents the core of Pakistani defence R&D and offers a broad range of defence and security solutions, many of which are already in service with Pakistan’s armed forces. The current portfolio encompasses the principal warfare domains —air, land and sea, as well as NBC defence and security-related applications.

“We strongly believes in innovation and creativity in addressing operational requirements, using technological expertise to overcome the evolving challenges of modern conflict and to provide users with effective solutions for today and tomorrow,” Asad Kamal, the Chief Executive Officer of GIDS, told Daily News. GIDS has specific interest in discussing collaborative ventures and technology initiatives with Türkiye, among other friendly nations, Kamal said.

The group carries a substantial portion of the government’s ‘industry-to-industry defence collaboration’ mandate. “We see IDEF as an ideal opportunity to strengthen effective and mutually beneficial ties between the two nations,” he noted. A memorandum of understanding was signed today between GIDS and the Turkish Aerospace for mutual defence cooperation, he said, without divulging the details of the MoU.

Kamal also said several militaries, especially from the North African and South East Asian countries, were showing keen interest in his company’s products.

The solutions unveiled at the show are currently in their late-stage development, he added.
The Shahpar-III Group 4+ MALE UCAV, features enhanced endurance, ceiling and payload performance, and has an indigenously-developed avionics system, 140 and 170hp power-plant options and six wing hardpoints for weapons carriage, he explained.

Referring to the FAAZ, he said the air-to-air missile, with beyond visual range capability, will be available in RF (active radar) and IIR (imaging infra-red) seeker variants.

“The other platform we have launched is the Taimoor air-launched cruise missile, which carries warheads designed for specific target lethality, and a range of conventional warheads for land attack. The Taimoor-AG will incorporate an IIR seeker,” he said.
