JODDB Making Armed Drones, Payloads

Our Bureau - : Nov 2, 2022 - : 12:54 am

The Jordan Design and Development Bureau (JODDB) is developing weaponised drones and, payloads for multi-rotor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

“The main purpose of the project is to bring remotely controlled weapons to a multi-rotor UAV. We are showcasing a multi-rotor UAV fitted with a two axis stabilised gun gimbal with enhanced counter reaction response. The gimbal, weighing about 8 kilograms, is designed to carry the FNp90 machine gun, which has a magazine capacity of 50 rounds with a range of about 200 meters,” a JODDB official told Daily News.

The aiming system of the gun consists of a day camera for target recognition. The weapon system can be integrated with wide variety of drones that can carry 8kgs payload.

JODDB is also developing payloads, including the Twin RPG26 and a 40mm grenade Quad launcher.

The RPG26 system can be installed on multi-rotor UAV, and is designed and developed to meet operational requirements for attack on ground vehicles, objects or any possible enemy aircraft. The holder of the RPG is designed and made with a light aluminium material, and the mechanism contains easy retractable cramps to make the reload process easier and more functional. The system is equipped with a sight system that contains day and laser range finder.

The under-development 40 mm grenades quad launcher can also be fitted on UAVs and UGVs. The system can hold four grenades with gross weight of 2 kilogram.

“The Jordanian Army has shown keen interest in this. We would also like to show this home-made system to other militaries in the region,” the JODDB official said. The systems are currently undergoing user trials and will be operational next year, the official added.
