MBDA which is showcasing a wide range of maritime weapon systems at the ongoing IMDEX Asia, is eyeing growing regional prospects for one of its newer missile systems, the AKERON MP.
Company officials said the AKERON MP is attracting the interest of potential users as it is the only 5th generation missile in service combat proven in the world, and one that has been operationally tested and proven in extreme climates (desert and sub-arctic conditions).
The AKERON MP offers maritime forces with the ability to engage in high-precision strikes against small and fast vessels, and static or fast-moving land targets, at all ranges. Maritime are forces are now increasingly searching for solutions to defend against small and fast-moving vessels.
The AKERON MP is easily installable on all naval platforms (new built or retrofit): on mast or existing remote weapon station with simple kit. The weapon has a range of 4,000m+ in all modes, all conditions and weighs 15kg (including tube).
The 5th generation missile offers many possible modes of engagement. These include ‘fire and forget’, human-in-the-loop, locking the target before firing (LOBL), or locking on after firing (LOAL), which facilitates firing beyond line of sight (BLOS).
MBDA’s AKERON family of missiles incorporates the latest technologies in terms of high-resolution multi-band imagers, multi-effect warheads (anti-tank, anti- infrastructure, anti-personnel), data links, and multi-mode guidance algorithms based on AI techniques. All ensuring robust and precise guidance at any distance, in all conditions. Each has their own specifications in order to be perfectly adapted to the missions of the combat units and platforms using them.
