Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, has officially reinstated direct flights between Singapore and Padang, the capital of West Sumatra province in Indonesia. The inaugural flight, designated TR204, touched down at Minangkabau International Airport on Monday, 6 January, at 12:37 local time (UTC+7). This marked its arrival after departing from Singapore’s Changi International Airport at 12:00 (UTC+8).
This route’s reopening comes after a hiatus since 2019, when the service was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Scoot now operates the route using its Embraer E190-E2 aircraft, which has a seating capacity of 112 passengers. First announced in November last year, the schedule offers four flights weekly, accommodating both business and leisure travellers.
On Mondays and Saturdays, flight TR204 departs Singapore at 12:00 (UTC+8), arriving in Padang at 12:25 (UTC+7). The return flight, TR205, departs Padang at 13:00 (UTC+7) and lands in Singapore at 15:10 (UTC+8). On Fridays and Sundays, flight TR208 leaves Singapore at 16:55 (UTC+8), reaching Padang at 17:20 (UTC+7). Its counterpart, TR209, departs Padang at 17:55 (UTC+7) and arrives in Singapore at 20:05 (UTC+8).
Padang, home to the Minangkabau ethnic group, holds significance not only as a business hub but also as a cultural and culinary destination. West Sumatra is renowned across Indonesia for its distinctive cuisine, with dishes like “Nasi Padang” and “Rendang” gaining international recognition. Notably, Rendang was named the world’s most delicious dish in a 2011 CNN poll.
This direct connection is expected to boost tourism by providing Singaporean travellers easier access to West Sumatra’s unique heritage, scenic landscapes, and gastronomic offerings. It also facilitates economic activities between the two regions, strengthening business ties and enhancing accessibility for investors and entrepreneurs.
The resumption of this route underscores Scoot’s commitment to expanding connectivity within Southeast Asia, catering to growing demand for travel as the region continues its recovery from the pandemic.
