WestJet Cargo has announced the expansion of its pet transportation services to include London Gatwick (LGW), London Heathrow (LHR), and Edinburgh (EDI) airports, coinciding with International Dog Day on 26 August. This extension aims to meet the growing need for secure pet travel between Canada and Europe.
“At WestJet Cargo, we recognize that pets are beloved members of the family, and their safety and comfort during travel are our utmost priorities. By extending our pet transportation service to LGW, LHR, and EDI, we are enhancing connectivity for pet owners and ensuring that their pets receive the highest standard of care throughout their journey,” said Kirsten de Bruijn, Executive Vice President of WestJet Cargo.
The airline offers specialised services tailored to various pet needs, including brachycephalic breeds that require extra care during flights. WestJet Cargo ensures all pet transport complies with the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Live Animals Regulations. The cargo holds used are pressurised and temperature-controlled to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for pets. Additionally, WestJet Cargo provides comprehensive guidelines for pet owners to prepare for flights and maintains clear communication throughout the journey, offering assistance if needed.
Pet owners and freight forwarders can book transport through WestJet Cargo’s customer service or online platform, and the service meets European regulations for pet travel.
In addition to the newly added routes, the airline has been offering year-round pet transport services to Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) since earlier this year. With sustained demand, the airline plans to resume some routes next year that were set to pause and is considering further expansion of its pet transportation services across Europe.
