Indonesian state-owned aircraft manufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) has signed an agreement with Turkish defence technology firm Havelsan to jointly develop an Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft. The partnership was formalised at the Indonesia-Türkiye Business Forum in Jakarta, organised by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEİK) on Wednesday (Feb. 12).
Under the agreement, PTDI will serve as the prime contractor, providing expertise in design, assembly, production, testing, and maintenance. Havelsan, which has developed 90 per cent of Turkey’s AEW&C system software, will contribute its technical capabilities to the project.
In addition to the AEW&C collaboration, PTDI and Havelsan have agreed to develop a Full Flight Simulator for the CN235-220 aircraft. PTDI will again act as the prime contractor and engage in joint technology development with Havelsan. PTDI has extensive experience in flight simulator development, having previously created simulators for aircraft such as the N250, CN235-220, and N219, as well as helicopters including the NAS332 Super Puma and H225M. Havelsan, which specialises in advanced visual systems, is expected to enhance the quality of the simulators.
The cooperation is part of a broader defence partnership between Indonesia and Turkey. During Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Indonesia, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding covering several defence projects. These include the development of autonomous combat vehicles, propulsion systems, missiles, naval platforms, maintenance and overhaul of defence fleets, and the modernisation of fighter aircraft.
