The inter airport Southeast Asia (IASEA) 2025 has commenced at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, bringing together industry professionals, global solution providers, and experts to discuss the future of airport operations and passenger experience. Over the next three days, the event is expected to host 4,000 airport professionals, 150 international exhibitors, four dedicated pavilions, and 53 speakers representing 66 countries and regions.
With the theme "Airport Operations for Tomorrow," the discussions come at a time of rapid transformation in aviation, as global passenger traffic is projected to reach 19.5 billion by 2042. The event's opening session featured a fireside chat on "Reshaping Global Airport Operations," led by Patrick Ky, CEO of the International Centre for Aviation Innovation (ICAI), and moderated by Glory Wee, Senior Director of the Aviation Development Group at the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS). Ky highlighted the role of data-sharing innovation in reshaping the industry but noted that regulatory adjustments and collaboration between airports would be necessary for its implementation. Wee added that reshaping operations is not solely about technological advances but also requires setting industry standards, ensuring data integrity, fostering collaborations, and building trust among stakeholders.
Several leading airports presented case studies on infrastructure development and technological integration in IASEA 2025. Narita International Airport Corporation showcased its "New Narita Airport" expansion plans for the 2030s, which include extending a runway, constructing a new one, improving city connectivity, and centralising cargo facilities. These upgrades aim to increase passenger capacity from 57 million to 75 million and cargo capacity from 2.4 million to 3.5 million tonnes.
Vietnam’s Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) outlined its strategy to expand the country’s airport network to meet growing domestic travel demand, which is expected to rise by over 20% from 2023 to 2027. Nguyen Dang Minh, Director of Airport Operations at ACV, stated that by 2030, the corporation aims to equip 30 airports with a combined capacity of 275.9 million passengers and 4.1 million tonnes of cargo annually. By 2050, the network is planned to expand to 33 airports, ensuring that 97% of the population has access to an airport within 100 kilometres. The total investment for this development is estimated at 420,000 billion VND.
A key project within ACV’s expansion is Long Thanh International Airport, intended as a major aviation hub. The project is divided into three phases: Terminal 1 and two runways are expected to be completed by 2025, allowing for an initial capacity of 25 million passengers; Terminal 2 will be built between 2025 and 2030, increasing capacity to 50 million; and by 2040, two additional runways will bring the total capacity to 100 million passengers. ACV Deputy General Director Nguyen Cao Cuong noted that the corporation is actively seeking technology and operations partners to support the airport’s development.
IASEA 2025 also serves as a platform for new industry collaborations. CW Aero Services announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Goldhofer AG to serve as a regional hub for Goldhofer's ground support equipment (GSE) product lines in Asia Pacific. The agreement covers product promotion, commissioning of new equipment, maintenance, and spare parts supply in Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, and the Philippines.
The exhibition features product launches aimed at improving airport efficiency and sustainability. FastCharge GSE introduced the Enatel eGSE Charger, which offers 97.6% energy efficiency to optimise electric ground support equipment (eGSE) charging times and reduce vehicle downtime. Oshkosh AeroTech unveiled two electric ground support vehicles for the Asia market—the LEKTRO 88i electric aircraft tug and the B80 electric pushback tractor, designed to enhance airport operations and reduce costs.
