Embraer of Brazil is seeking a greater foothold in the region and is promoting two of its important defence platforms at the ongoing IDEX.
The airframer is eyeing the regional market for its C-390 Millennium multi-mission military transport aircraft, which has already received a total of 42 orders. Embraer is also promoting the capabilities of its A-29 Super Tucano light attack, reconnaissance, and advanced training aircraft.
“We are honored to participate in IDEX 2025. We consider the United Arab Emirates to be a leading nation in the Middle East, a region of strategic importance to us. We are confident that our aircraft and defense systems, renowned for their cost efficiency and outstanding performance, are ideal for modernizing air forces around the world” said Bosco da Costa Jr, President and CEO, Embraer Defence & Security.
The C-390 Millennium is a versatile and efficient new-generation airlifter that can carry up to 26 tons and fly at a speed of 470 knots, covering long distances. It can undertake logistics support, surveillance, transportation, airdrop, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting, and humanitarian aid missions. The aircraft is able to operate in tough conditions on unpaved runways like packed earth or gravel. With air-to-air refueling equipment, it serves as both a tanker and receiver. The current global fleet of C-390 Millennium aircraft has accumulated over 16,000 flight hours, demonstrating a 93 percent mission capability rate with mission completion rates exceeding 99 percent.
To date, the C-390 has been contracted by South Korea, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Portugal, Brazil, and an undisclosed customer Sweden and Slovakia most recently selected the Embraer C-390 Millennium as their new tactical transport aircraft.
Embraer’s A-29 Super Tucano has been a sales success and the provides great versatility for armed reconnaissance, border surveillance, close air support, light attack, and advanced training missions on a single platform, which exponentially increases the aircraft's availability and operational flexibility. Its robust airframe is capable of operating from unpaved runways in harsh environments.
Embraer has bagged over 290 A-29 Super Tucano orders with the global fleet having accumulated over 580,000 flight hours, with 60,000 of those in combat. Embraer announced new sales of the Super Tucano in 2024 to the Portuguese AirForce (A-29N), the Uruguayan Air Force, the Paraguayan Air Force and two undisclosed customers.
