Our Bureau - : May 5, 2023 - : 4:34 am

Siemens is displaying a model of its BZM evo 4th generation fuel cell for the first time in the region at the ongoing IMDEX. The new BZM evo series is slated to be available on the market from this year and is also available for Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) applications.

A company official confirmed to Daily News, that this is the first time that the BZM evo series has been showcased at a defence exhibition in the region. The BZM evo series can deliver between 5-60Kw.

More than 10 MW fuel cell power is installed on conventional submarines today
The new BZM evo fuel cell module builds on the success of Siemen’s previous BZM34 and BZM120 fuel cell modules. The new fuel cell module optimizes the power density and user-friendliness of fuel cell plants on board of air-independent underwater vehicles.

A single BZM evo has a nominal power of 40 kW. In addition to the conventional operation inside AIP submarines, the compact module design also supports the integration of individual BZM evo modules into unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV).

The BZM evo is a further optimized system from the SINAVY Fuel Cells series, which was originally designed by Siemens in close cooperation with the German Navy and HDW (today ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems – tk MS) over two decades ago.
