EDGE Group, Brazilian Navy Partner to Develop MANSUP Missile

Our Bureau - : Sep 5, 2024 - : 9:24 pm

EDGE Group has formalised a partnership with the Brazilian Navy to complete the development of the National Anti-Ship Missile (MANSUP) by late 2025. This collaboration, involving Brazil’s smart weapons specialist SIATT, aims to finalise the missile for deployment on the Navy’s new Tamandaré class frigates.

In addition to completing the project, the contract allows for the development of an extended-range version (MANSUP-ER). EDGE Group will utilise MANSUP technology and data for this purpose.

Rodrigo Torres, EDGE Group’s Chief Financial Officer, highlighted the broader impact of the programme, stating, “This programme not only strengthens the defence sectors of Brazil and the UAE, but also promises benefits beyond missile development. It will lead to the establishment of new factories and create job opportunities, fostering industrial and economic growth.”

The agreement was signed during the Brazilian Navy’s visit to EDGE Group. The event was attended by several key figures from the Navy, including Admiral Edgar Luiz Siqueira Barbosa, Admiral Emerson Gaio Roberto, Admiral Carlos Henrique de Lima Zampieri, Admiral Marcelo da Silva Gomes, Admiral Sergio Blanco Ozório, and Captain Cleiton Souza da Silva.

This contract builds on an existing partnership between EDGE Group, SIATT, and the Brazilian Navy. Following EDGE Group’s acquisition of a 50% stake in SIATT, the company announced an expansion of SIATT’s manufacturing base in São Paulo, alongside contracts to supply the MANSUP and MANSUP-ER to the Brazilian Navy and the UAE Ministry of Defence.
