Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navaratna defence public sector undertaking (PSU) in India, has signed an agreement with Canadian company Reliasat Inc. to collaborate on space-related products. This partnership is expected to combine the expertise of both companies in the space sector.

The agreement, signed at BEL’s corporate office in Bengaluru, marks an important step for BEL as it ventures into the space industry. This aligns with India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make-in-India’ policies and is intended to expand BEL’s portfolio of products and services.

K V Suresh Kumar, Director of Marketing at BEL, and Gurvinder Chohan, CEO of Reliasat, signed the agreement. Senior representatives from both companies attended the event, including BEL’s Rashmi Kathuria, General Manager and Unit Head of BEL-Ghaziabad, and Niti Pandit, General Manager of Space Products, alongside key personnel from marketing and engineering teams.

BEL, operating under the Ministry of Defence, holds a leading position in India’s defence electronics sector. The company specialises in various technologies, including radar, communications systems, electronic warfare, avionics, naval systems, and space electronics. It has been working to broaden its offerings in non-defence areas, such as homeland security, cyber security, civil aviation, and space electronics.

Reliasat Inc. focuses on developing next-generation telecom satellites, including small, low-cost satellites. The company specialises in creating space-based smart satellites with integrated artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies, aiming to provide high-capacity internet connectivity from space.
